No matter what you choose, Blacksburg has plenty of indoor fun to do, including the Blackburg Public Library, the Blue Ridge Museum of Natural History and the Virginia State Museum.

My son is a student at Virginia Tech, which earned me the most honorable student honor, but what should the student body do when the climate gets cold? Ironically, the New River is just a few blocks from Virginia Commonwealth University's campus and ironically, right next to Va. Tech. Located in the heart of the Blacksburg area overlooking the New River, this inn is located right on top of one of Virginia Tech's most prestigious buildings. The Blacksberg area is bordered by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Black River and the James River.
The community is home to an internationally renowned high-learning and research university, Virginia Commonwealth University, and the area is just blocks from the University of Virginia and Virginia State University. Close to Virginia Tech there are an abundance of museums and art galleries and Blacksburg Virginia certainly has a lot to keep you busy during your visit. Although there is a certain atmosphere, the home of Virginia Tech and Blacksburg has always been a strong sense of pride in its history and heritage.
There is simply no better example of this than the Virginia State Museum. Even if you are not originally from Blacksburg or even Virginia, this place could give you a context on how the area came about.
The city also has the first large farm in southwest Virginia, Virginia State Farm. The gardens cover a 6 hectare site and offer more than 1,000 different types of fruit, vegetables, flowers, herbs and plants.
The Roanoke Valley Visitor Center is located at the historic train station and offers a wide range of activities in the city of Blacksburg, Virginia. The center houses a small museum, including a Virginia State Farm museum, the Virginia Museum of Natural History and a visitor center with a variety of exhibits.
The SmartWay Bus (# 6) provides regular service between Blacksburg and the Roanoke Valley Transit Center. When the school is in session, Home Ride Virginia 7 offers a free bus ride from Virginia State Farm Center to the University of Virginia. Amtrak offers the option of traveling to and from Virginia Beach, Virginia, and other destinations in Virginia and Maryland.
